Well known within the trade community as an expert, Robert Stein has over 34 years of experience in regulatory compliance, customs brokerage, freight forwarding, and consulting. With a very broad base of trade experience, he is an expert in import and export compliance, Foreign Trade Zones (FTZ), Duty Drawback, HTS classification, and USMCA & other free trade agreements. Robert started his career on the Northern Border as a release agent before becoming a classification and NAFTA specialist at John V Carr in Buffalo. While working in Boston and JFK airport, Robert was able to expand his knowledge of ocean and air imports, as well as FDA. He took on the task of training all JFK and Newark employees on FDA compliance for AEI Radix. Since then, he has consistently developed and delivered training internally and externally for every broker/forwarder for whom he has worked. Robert joined Braumiller Consulting Group after 17 years at Mohawk Global where he was the driving force behind import and export compliance.
From risk management to duty savings, Robert has helped clients to improve compliance processes, identify risks, and minimize costs. He has guided clients through the Prior Disclosure process to help them correct compliance issues, pay any duties owed, and reduce or eliminate penalties and/or liquidated damages.
Robert’s interest in trade policy and the future of CBP import process and regulations has him regularly involved “inside the beltway” in Washington, DC as well as participating in pilot programs with CBP to help develop the future technology of ACE and CBP.
Robert is an active speaker in the trade community, participating in seminar and webinar events throughout the year including events for the Small Business Administration, Department of Commerce, National Association of Foreign Trade Zones (NAFTZ), the National Customs Brokers & Forwarders Association of America (NCBFAA) and Syracuse University Whitman School of Management. He sits on the NCBFAA Customs Committee as the area 3 representative and is the Chairperson of the NEI Advisory Council. Robert has been a Licensed Customs Broker since 1997 and a Certified Customs Specialist.
